The City of West Sacramento has adopted local campaign contribution limits. The information below is provided as a general guide to assist in understanding the provisions. Interested persons are strongly encouraged to read the full content of the Municipal Code section 2.18 to ensure compliance. with all provisions. Contribution limits were updated effective February 17, 2024 according to Ordinance 24-4.

What are the contribution limits?

The total amount contributed to a candidate for city elective office by a person cannot exceed $500. There is no limit to the amount a candidate may contribute to their own campaign for city elective office from their personal funds.

What is an election cycle as it applies to contributions?

For general elections to city elective office, the election cycle period is from the day after the election until the day of the next election for the same city elective office. For special elections to city elective office, the election cycle period is from the day on which the seat becomes vacant until the day of the special election. In the case of a recall, election cycle period is from the date of the filing of the notice of intention to circulate a recall petition until the day of the election.
